We are fulltimers with cats. We have a motorhome and the cats ride in their cages when we travel. It's safer for them and for us. We stop often at rest areas and we let them out for food, water and kitty pan. They do just fine once they get into the cages. They always hate going into the cages but once they get into the cages and we're on the road, they sleep. When we get to our destination they act like they worked all day...and nap!
We don't leave the windows very far because I am afraid they will push open the screens or make a hole in them. The windows are open only an inch or two. We have a fantastic fan on the ceiling that we leave open to draw the air out.
We do not leave the main door open with just the screen because they get too interested in sneaking outside. They do fine, but we are very careful. We worry about power outages when we're away and it's not. The generator it set up to go on if the power goes out...but still we worry.
Cats can do just fine in an Rv. Ours are "fulltime kitties" and are happy.
good luck.
