No crates here but we've only traveled with 2 of ours-- each at a separate time. One was with a TT so she rode in the truck with us. She usually laid across the back of the drivers seat. The other was with a C where I had a small ice chest covered with a towel. She & my Toy Poodle liked to both lay there in between the front Captains Chairs.
Neither was particularly interested in escaping out the door. We always have things hung on the doorknobs or from the top of doors for them to play with, plus their catnip mice. Cats are IMO at least much better travelers than dogs.
