Cleaning a Thundershirt

The thundershirt has been a godsend for us and our 16 year old Sassy. She has always been a difficult car passenger. We travel to Florida and as she aged we were concerned about the toll her anxiety was taking on her physically. We had tried a thundershirt previously with little change. After trying everything our vet could think of we did resort to Xanax. We hated every dose but felt the anxiety was worse. Recently we tried the combination of the drugs and a thundershirt with some success. We have been able to cut the drug dosage in half and she is a much calmer dog. She actually comes to me to get her thundershirt on for storms. Sorry long way to question.

How do you get the fur out of the thundershirt? Her pretty pink shirt is looking less than pretty.
  • Thanks. Used the fine tooth dog comb and thundershirt is good as new. Thank you all.
  • I have a fine tooth metal dog comb, and that does a good job of getting the dog hair out of the velcro.
  • I have gotten dog hair out of velcro with a fine tooth comb, then any residual fuzz off with the sticky side of duct tape. It's pretty hard to get it all out, but you can remove enough to make the velcro functional again.
  • Thanks Old Biscuit. We have washed it. It was getting fur out of the Velcro that we are having issues with. We will look for the "slicker" brush.
  • Per ThunderShirt.com

ThunderShirt is made with durable, washable fabric. When necessary, ThunderShirt may be washed in a regular cycle using regular laundry detergent and cold water. Hang to dry.
If necessary, to remove hair from your ThunderShirt's fastener hooks, we recommend using a standard dog "slicker" brush (Available at most any pet store for as little as $2.99). A couple of strokes and the fastener hooks will be nearly completely hair-free.

Sounds like most any other thing......when dirty----wash it
