concerned about our little Peanut Update on page 2

One of our Boston's has been hurt rough housing with his brothers it appears. He is walking normal but appears to have a neck or shoulder injury. When he moves a certain way with his neck, he lets out a blood curdling yelp. We have an appointment with our vet at 8:00a.m. tomorrow. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I would love for Dr. Doug to chime in if possible. He's just being pretty mellow now and being careful not to move to where it hurts him.

  • The main symptoms besides pain are related to neuro function, stumbling or abnormal gait. Your vet will probably do some degree of neuro exam (checking reflexes, etc.)

Sometimes these things resolve before you get in for the appointment, hope that happens.

These types of injuries are pretty common. Could be muscle strain, joint or cervical spine (disc). As long as there is "just" pain and no neurological symptoms, rest and an nSAID are usually enough.

Anybody who has had a neck problem from whiplash, slipped disc, exercise or sleeping wrong knows how painful these can be.
