peanut butter eggs

Does anyone have a tried and proven recipe for peanut butter eggs?
I know you mix alot of confectioner's sugar with the p'nut butter. I have no idea what else goes in them. Then you dip them in melted chocolate.

I googled and found some recipes but I'm about half leary. A couple of weeks ago, I tried a lemon bar recipe I saw on the internet, and let's just say I should have saved the ingredients and my time.

Thanks!
  • I generally get my recipes from the bigger sources, Allrecipes, Food.com etc and I always read the reviews. It is imperative that you read several and pay attention to those low ratings that aren't deserved and those high ones that aren't either.
    Here's one from Allrecipes.
    Peanut Butter Eggs.
  • We don't mean to ignore your request for "proven" testimonials but these look awesome!

  • :B

The topic of this post was so foreign to any food combination I had ever heard of I just had to learn more!

From the one recipe linked to, I see actual eggs are not involved! Pshew!

But, man! Butter, sugar, peanut butter, shortening? Wow. I bet they are tasty!
  • If I was going to try and make them, I would probably figure out how to use those plastic Easter eggs as a mold.

The ones I had were molded by hand. The bottoms are flat. From the marks on them, I think they laid the formed pb mixture on a dinner fork to dip them in the chocolate coating.

I used to buy them from a local church lady - they did it for a fundraiser. The size of the plastic easter eggs would be way too much.

They are rich, and a little goes a long way. They are good though.

They are so good, I haven't gotten any for a number of years. I don't partake of an over abundance of sweets, but when these things are in the house... well, lets just say they are made to be consumed.
  • I would imagine that some time in the freezer and a little olive oil on the hands would make molding them easier.
  • I make Buckeyes every year and they are devoured. You could use the same recipe and shape them into eggs.

    1 1/2 sticks margarine
18 oz. jar creamy peanut butter
    1 lb. powdered sugar
    scant 2 c. Rice Krispies,
    2 lbs, bulk dipping chocolate

Mix together all ingredients, except the chocolate. Use less than the 2 cups of krispies until you make sure it is not going to be too dry. You want it to hold together well. Shape. I make balls but you could make eggs. Dip into melted chocolate, drain, place on wax paper until chocolate hardens.

We use a toothpick to dip and smooth over the hole when we put it on the paper.

I have used butter and in this instance the margarine tastes better. We use Imperial or Blue Bonnet. This is the only time I ever use margarine.
