I beleive in quality of life myself. That's why when Cooper no longer feels cofortable the decesion will be made. I also don't want to end his very short life for convenience. With his med's he's feeling OK and there will be a time shortly that will not be the case.
My own personal feelings about a situation like yours may ruffle some feathers, but I only have the animal's best interests at heart.
Well ... here goes...
I've lost maybe a dozen dogs and cats over the years and I personally feel that it would have been selfish of me to keep them going and suffering the whole way just for my own edification.
An animal's pain is not is pleasant thing to watch or for them to endure.

Your opinion is very valid, I do not intend to let him suffer. - buta4ExplorerMy own personal feelings about a situation like yours may ruffle some feathers, but I only have the animal's best interests at heart.

(Believe in the Rainbow Bridge) - CroweExplorerI am so sorry to here this. Your own faith will guide you through.
- RBakExplorerSo sorry, Dan. I know you'll give Cooper the best possible life in the time he has remaining. You are compassionate and will know when it is time to let him go. You and Cooper and all your Collies are in my prayers.

Thanks, with Cooper's weakened immune system we decided not to put him through treatment. I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers. I will try to post some pictures of Cooper and Sawyer, it will be a first for me.
So sorry, Dan. I know you will continue to give Cooper the best life possible. I wish we had answers to cancer. Oral Squamous cell tumors are particularly difficult to treat. We're with you and Cooper along this difficult path. - dturmModeratorSo sorry, Dan. I know you will continue to give Cooper the best life possible. I wish we had answers to cancer. - BCSnobExplorerI am sorry; these are hard diagnoses to get. All we can do is make the most of the time we have with them.
Mark - colliehaulerExplorer IIIThe results are back from K-State and Cooper is diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. The vet said probably around two month life expectancy. When he starts feeling discomfort I will not make him suffer.
The day the original diagnosis was made I was numb and depressed the whole day. Now at least I know and will give Cooper lots of belly rubs and back scratches. Some times life isn't fair you just have to deal with it and go on. 4 years is a short life .
Poor Sawyer doesn't understand why Cooper doesn't want to play and what's happening. Sawyer goes in Wednesday to get neutered.
I told everybody I would post an update. - 3boxerssExplorermy thoughts and prayers are with you and Cooper. I know alot of what u are going thru.. Lost 3 boxers over the years from cancer and our last one just 6 weeks ago. WE went thru a bad 4 months with our last boxer with a final diagnosis of Addisons disease but he couldnt handle the meds.. Take it one day at a time and hang in there..

On a side note I went to the grocery store yesterday and there was a faith based women crisis center selling faith based items. I purchased a plaque with the Serenity Prayer inscribed.
This is a good way to go through life. Sometimes all our best efforts, worrying, looking for every solution, prayers, ...... still aren't enough.
In the meantime, I will continue to pray for a good outcome for Cooper.
