Masks probably have very little value in stopping airborn viruses BUT most people will catch diseases (of ANY stripe) by touching their face and transferring a virus they picked up from a door knob, table, etc. A mask is a constant reminder not to do that. The N95 masks, if fitted properly can greatly lessen the chance of getting infected from virus in the air BUT you also need snug fitting goggles as the virus can easily enter your body around your eyes. The takeaway? If you think you need a mask/goggles where you are going, you don't need to be going there.
