I volunteer at our local library each week. Last night, we spent more time cleaning commonly touched surfaces than we did checking out/in books (it was a slow night). Frankly, after cleaning some of the things we volunteers and staff routinely use, like the computer keyboards, shredder, book carts, telephone handsets, copy machine, printers, etc., I was appalled at how dirty/germy/just plain nasty stuff was allowed to be. I don't think some of that equipment had been cleaned since the library opened ten years ago. Every time I changed jobs (or just desks) in my working days, I cleaned the blazes out of the new location before I put down so much as an ink pen in the new space. Discovering my place of volunteering doesn't do that grossed me out, virus or no virus Yuck.
At least it's all clean now, so each evening shift can just do a simple equipment wipe down instead of our deep clean. The regular janitorial staff does keep the big stuff clean and is using pretty strong products in the first place. As a rural library and local meetings locale, keeping it clean is a high priority.
Anyway, I came home and thoroughly cleaned up before I even considered touching my cats (or spouse). Not taking any chances on their health.
