We know about the cyanide in cherry because livestock will browse the green leaves on downed branches; they won't browse the brown/dead leaves. There are other toxic plants. There are plants and a fungus that grows on vegetation that will cause livestock to be photosensitized leading to 2nd degree sunburns (swollen & blistered).
