Every time I decide to take a nap, I look around for Edna. She was a lovely, orange tabby with a bunny-soft coat and big, golden eyes. For almost 19 years, since she was five weeks old, Edna had been my hot water bottle, shaping her furry self to my mid-section with comforting precision, purring lightly. I felt like a three year old napping with her favorite blankie.
Everyone says, find a new best friend, but there comes a time when that is just not practical and would not be fair to the new kitty. So I just remember...and smile. Miss you forever, my sweet friend.
I know what you mean. I don't want to leave animals behind when I check out of this world. As of yesterday, we are down to two dogs. We took in an 11 yr old boy back in June.
There are a lot of nice older animals who may only have a few years left. Life with no furry companions is not good for me. I don't really see any puppies in my future, but possibly taking in older dogs when the ones we have now leave us.
Life is a constant balancing act.
