Dealing with Loss

What do you all do, in the adjustment period after losing a pet? I always try to make something in their memory. A friend of mine can't stand to have their photo sitting out where she sees it for a long time after they are gone. She puts away everything that reminds her of the one that is gone.

Sometimes I do a photo collage. Some friends gave me a lovely wind chime -- when the breeze makes it chime, I think of my fur babies that are gone.

Another friend makes an ornament with the dog's paw print.

I have a project that I haven't done yet. I have everything I need - might be a project for this fall. I got a set of clear glass Christmas balls. I want to put my favorite photo of each dog on an ornament with their name (decoupage), and then put a lock of their hair inside the ornament. Maybe decorate with fancy ribbon and some glitter on the ornaments.

I don't think there is any right or wrong way to grieve. Each person has to do what they feel comfortable with.

Just wondering what some of you all do.

  • We've always had more than one dog, so the one we have gets lots of hugs and I cry a lot. It's been two years since losing our little Missy and I still choke up when I think of her. I do with all of them.
  • Well besides grieving, we always swear we will never own another dog.
And yet we always seem to have a dog.
The dog we have at present was acquired after our last one passed.
One of our daughters sent a photo of a puppy her friend had just gotten, that was all it took.
    That puppy is now 7.
