I lost my old cat 27 April to old age (22) and kidney failure. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He was not a "Service" animal but he certainly helped my PTSD, or at least I think he did. I had sworn no more animals, my health has been a bit iffy and I didn't want to orphan an animal. My health has improved but still I was resolute, no cats, dogs or anything.Last week went over to a friends house and found he and his wife are fostering a 4 week old kitten whose mother was hit by a car. There were 3 kittens but two didn't make it. A tough little grey ball of fur did. I am bringing her (I think it's a her) home tomorrow. Nothing will replace Buddy or my memories of him but the time seems right to have the company again. I will post a picture when I bring him/her home.

Congratulations. Sometimes things work out. :)One thing worth mentioning if you have never had a bottle fed kitten. They are extremely affectionate (because they see humans as their mamas), but they don't learn the basic rules of self-preservation such as distrust of people, dogs, etc. If they get out of the house unsupervised, they could easily follow another person home or approach an unknown dog.

God bless you for giving a home to a rescue. It's a great tribute to your Buddy as well.Let us know what you name him/her.

It has been my experience that when a pet passes (for me it was a beloved dog) the first thought is, "No more. Can't handle the pain." However, I believe that they do not rest until we are taken care of again, because that is their loving and faithful goal, to see that we are guarded, noted, close by, and loved. For me there was a palpable sense of relief to accept another puppy, not just for myself but but from the dog that had passed, almost as if she thought, "Ah, at last I can go...another will take my person the rest of the way." They're ever in heart and memory, but the "new" one will come to us with love and needs, and we heal.

Well, whatcha gonna do when a new "kid" finds you? :B We got Edna at 5 weeks old and she was very tiny. Kittens are so much fun, you cannot be bored or depressed with one of those little guys around. If you kept any of Buddy's things, wash 'em up and get them ready for the new baby. If not, Just get yourself to a pet dept and buy some little toys for her to bat around. Balls with a bell in them are a big hit with kittens. Also, get a kitten collar with a bell on it, as she is going to be underfoot, for sure. You'll want to know where she is at all times. Be sure and update us about your new family member. I can imagine Buddy purring his approval, as if to say, "Way to go, Dad!"

I gave all of Buddy's things away, all I kept were the pictures.

I don't expect this kitten to replace Buddy, just continue the tradition.

Aww, Buddy's a beautiful ginger cat like my Edna. I know what you mean, as I still look for her everywhere. I don't remember if you said whether Buddy was a little kitten when you got him. If not, this will be a whole new experience for you. We'll be waiting to hear all about it.

Buddy was a a very handsome boy! I love orange cats - had a couple of them when the kids were young.

Congrats on the new kitten! I think it's great that you will start off with new things for your new kitten. This way you won't be reminded so much of Buddy's loss when you see the kitten's new things. I can't wait to hear all about her/him and see photos of your new family member!!

We went to donate all of our Lex's "cat gear" to a local rescue and we were adopted on-the-spot by a four-month-old fostered feral named Katie.

What a handsome guy, Your Buddy. No doubt he would be very proud of you.

Well, she (verified) has arrived. We let her stay in her carrier to give her a chance to get accustomed to the sounds and for her relax. Fed her a few treats and she seemed calm.

Opened the carrier door and she bolted. I have her water and dry food near her carrier and a small litter-box. Haven't seen her in a few hours so no pictures yet..But soon.

It looks like she's adjusting. She has that belled ball by the throat - you could always name her Belle after the tough but tender Belle Watling of "Gone With The Wind". If you do name her that, get her spayed ASAP :b:w

I see she has a touch of ginger in her fur: that's a nice tribute to Buddy.
