dog beaches

Are you looking only at the ocean or is a lake beach good for you? Donner State Park, on Donner Lake has a dog beach. The dogs have to be leashed going to and from the beach, but can be free at the beach itself.

Otherwise, I second Pismo Beach

Avila Beach, mentioned above, has a nice dog beach and limited camping. A few miles south in Pismo Beach which has quite a few nice campgrounds. There are miles of open beach to let them run.

That's a pretty open-ended question. Not knowing where you want to visit makes that hard.

Any of the campgrounds right on the beach in Southern California (Ventura Co. and south) have restrictions against dogs on the beach. If you're willing to drive a bit you can find a few that are quite nice.

If you want to be a little more specific about where you'd like to be I can give you several suggestions.

My advice: go to Oregon....LOL! (I was stunned by how dog-friendly their beaches were, and my dogs were thrilled!)

You will probably have to search for "California dog-friendly beaches"; then once you have some towns ID'd, then find campgrounds nearby? RVparkreviews has an interactive map to help find campgrounds.

Yes. When we are on a deserted beach, and no people around, I don't care about what the law is regarding leashes. I guess people just go around in life like zombies just following the "rules".
and I am not one of those people that thinks that the "rules" only apply to other people. I try and go through life thinking, and using common sense about my actions. and yes, that is my approach.

In northern California and southern Oregon we have found that most all the time when we walk down the beach, and away from other people, our dog is taken off the leash and allowed to run freely. Never even cared what the leash laws say about it.

We found CA to be pretty dog unfriendly....beaches, trails, etc.

Oregon and WA beaches and State campgrounds are another story. Very dog friendly.
