dogs on Fla Beaches

We're looking to go to Fla in a few weeks, Perdido Key area. I haven't been to Fla in many years (really decades), I know that most Fla beaches do not welcome dogs, but are there areas with exceptions? What about state parks(big lagoon)? Yeah know I can call but thought of asking here first for your experiences.

Thanks mayor
  • Perdido Key is just west of Pensacola, very near the Alabama/Florida state line. We spent a month in Gulf Shores and found there are very few beaches in the area that allow dogs. Gulf State Park does have a fenced in dog "beach"/park that is right off 182. Gulf State Park is a great campground and use of this dog park is part of the campground fee.
  • Perido Key, is that in the Panhandle?
Only place we have been up there is St. George Island, the park doesn't
allow dogs on the beach but if you rent/own you can use the beach.
Carrabelle beach, nice rv park and dog friendly beach, where we stay so the dogs can enjoy their travels too.

On edit...google the county web site of where you are visiting, there usually is info on dogs on the beach.

  • Venice (however not close to Perdido since it is in the SW - south of Sarasota, north of Punta Gorda and Ft. Myers) has a dog beach. Oscar Scherer State Park near Venice has a campground.
  • Canova Beach Park north of Melbourne, has a dog beach (and wash-off hose) - but no camping. And actually, my dogs don't really like it there (the waves are too big and the water tastes yucky....LOL!)
  • Ft DeSoto has a dog beach, but hard to get reservations. Hanna park near Jacksonville allows dogs on beach and is a great campground also.
