Dog Crap

You are preaching to the choir. Everyone that reads RV.Net always picks up after their dogs. Just read the post and you will see. :@

The dw and our 2 Boston Terriers just returned from a long 4 day weekend at our favorite campground and while I was out walking one of our boys, I witnessed a lady walking her dog which of course did his or her duties. I watched the owner keep walking without picking it up.

Now a few minutes later when I was walking the other one she saw me out walking again and when I was using the normal plastic bag to pick up the waste and she looked at me and said how disgusting. I commented to her that it was much less disgusting to pick it up than to leave it lay for other campers to step in it. Her comment was to let nature take care of it. I reminded her that she should reread the campground rules about picking up after pets. She just walked away and I never saw her again. :h

If I see someone leaving their pet's waste, I politely walk up to them and give them a poo bag and encourage then to please use it, citing health concerns. I don't really care what they think of me...

This week we are in Virginia and we had a handful of campers a few days ago. There were dogs, too, but our Scotties were bigger than all of those. . . EXCEPT for the two Newfoundland Hounds. Coming back from a dog walk in the dark, I stepped in a fairly fresh pile of dog poop. Grrrrrrr. When I shined my light it in, it was obvious there was only ONE culprit in the campground as the turds were so much larger than what my dogs and the smaller dogs in the camp would leave behind. I picked it up so I wouldn't step in it again and watched diligently after that to see where they walked them. We were gone a lot while they were here and I never did catch them in the act, but I would not only have said something to them, but would have told the management as well.

You give fair written warning when they check in and, if presented with evidence/reports from other residents, then the charge is simply tacked onto their credit card bill, or they pay cash. At that point, if the camper is offended and files a chargeback, the CG =should= be able to show the "evidence"/signed reports =and= the signed rental agreement (maybe even with initials next to this specific rule) and there should be no problem with them losing the funds. As far as dogs running off-leash, that's usually a city/county animal control issue and you can call them if the CG staff don't/won't. I'd've certainly reported it, especially if the loose dog attacked mine.

I agree - and yes, I say something! I say nicely-but-firmly "Oh no - are you out of pickup bags?? Here - have one of mine so nobody thinks you're rude"

That simple sentence takes away the "excuse" (I'm out of bags) and also gives them the option of admitting that if they decline, they are rude. ;-)

Yes there is a lot of owners that don't pick up after pets (cats excluded) and the worst offenders are kids walking their's or grandparents pets.

As far as more parks banning them some may but most don't because there's so many that have them. In a park we stayed in last winter in AZ it was split in half, dog side and pet free. The pet side was full and the pet free zone wasn't.

We were camping at a KOA in minnesota and a older guy was so good picking up after his dog that one time he had it in the blue bag when is was only halfway out, my wife couldn't believe what she saw.
