Dog diapers

I have a 70# lab mix he is getting old now 13 in August. He has had the walking poops and goes in his sleep I can handle cleaning up poo. Recently I noticed he has started the walking pee. I have a customer who is a vet and he showed me how to make him pee on command, said it won't hurt him. We have taken him camping alot but the ride and if he gets left while we go to eat or something. My wife wants an opinion for dog diapers, cause accidents happen.Again we can clean up pooo but I don't want the pee smell long after he is gone.

  • I had a 13 year old male lab and during his last 7-8 months, he would have a BM without knowing...I felt so bad for him as he had never done anything wrong...and this, of course, was not wrong! Anyway, I bought diapers at PetSmart for females...worked well! Good luck!
  • the male wrap and manually making him pee ,the vet showed me,seems to be working. For now.
  • The vet said it's part of getting old the problem is in the bridge of his spine the arthritis screwing up his nervous system.
  • What Doug said. Also consider a diet change....kibble makes dogs thirsty and they drink more and pee more. Also the grains and fillers make more poop. Optimal in my experience is a raw meat based diet but canned would be better than kibble.
  • Those male wraps work well. When we first got our MH, we had an old boy - 15 y/o. I put a cloth wrap around him with a baby diaper laid inside.

YOu just need to watch that the dog doesn't get the pad or diaper out and consume any of it. Some of those products have a gel type stuff in them, which is what absorbs the urine.
  • Have you talked to your vet? There are medications that will often work with urinary incontinence (DES or PPA). There was a previous thread about Cholodin, it can be effective in reducing the fecal incontinence.

  • Thanks My wife was looking at the ones on the internet. She just informed me she ordered the simple solution washable male wrap. It takes a maxie pad to do the absorbing Please don't ask what kind. I don't know.
  • I made diaper pads for my paraplegic doggie I used the tops of panty hose and velcro I would put part of a diaper in the front and it worked pretty good Now they have Depends which you might figure out how to use for him, The tops of panty hose might keep the Depends stable I tried several things before i figured out what was best for my doggie,Go0d luck, let us know what you do.
There are also doggie diapers advertized but i dont know anything about them
Bless you for your patience and love for your old doggie
