Regarding Purina: although I don't feed their dog food - the name is highly regarded for "chow" for many species of critters; and I know they have a huge research facility because ages ago, a friend owned a beautiful horse who was raised by Purina - their horses' registered names all began with "PURF" (Purina Research Farm).
Let's not forget what our dogs will happily eat when left to their own devices..... bleagh.
