The last year-and-a-half of Ike's life, his body somehow wasn't absorbing calories, but DID absorb nutrients?? I know that seems counterintuitive - but I tried several kinds of food to keep the weight on him, to no avail; yet his coat was incredibly thick and lustrous (thank God, because towards the end, he was pretty thin). And for all the hoopla about not feeding dogs grains - Ike did the best when fed a breakfast of a scrambled egg and a serving of Maple-and-brown-sugar oatmeal :-) Those carbs made him a happy boy for several hours....LOL!
Here he is patrolling the parking lot at the ripe old age of 14
