Dog or Pets in Motorhomes

Sparky has a crate that sometimes when he just does not want to be bothered or for some reason is not feeling like himself and he goes and lays in it. Covers up with his blanket and naps. We do not put him in it, it is kind of his man cave. It is not too big so fits in the MH without taking a lot of room.

We took our 2 dogs (Aussie and Cattle Dog) to Alaska - the ultimate road trip! The longest we ever left them was for 7.5 hours in Valdez, while we took a boat tour. Prior to our leaving, we walked their wheels off - they were STILL sound asleep when we returned...LOL! We never crated them and never had any problem, but they never gave us a moment's problem in the "regular" house, either.

Granted, you don't get to hike the trails in a National Park (dogs aren't allowed); and there were probably other compromises we made to bring them along, but the peace of mind knowing our dogs were happy and safely with us far outweighed a missed opportunity or two. On the other hand, I've always believed that an RV could be a tempting target for a thief - but I doubt a thief wants to tackle the RV with a dog growling/barking behind the door. So perhaps my dogs provide protection, too?

Most but not all dogs are good campers. Some dogs get car sick, some dogs have anxiety issues if you leave them in the RV by themselves etc. If your dogs bark when you leave the house it's a good sign there going to bark when you leave them in the RV which may ruin the camping experience of your fellow campers.

Treat our Fur Kids same in MH as we do in S&B.

The only time we leave ours is like on a cruise or if we are going to be flying overseas for a couple of weeks. Other wise he goes too.

We took our Lab all the way from Florida to Alaska and back with no problems. She loved the trip. She sat up front with us watching for moose, bears and other critters crossing the road. She would get all excited when something crossed the road. We left her inside loose with no problems. She was never a problem when left alone at home either. If your dogs tend to get mischievous when left alone at home they probably will do the same in the motorhome.

We always left the air on, running the generator if necessary, like when shopping or stopped at some attraction for an hour or so. She would sit in the driver's seat and watch everyone passing by and seemed to be entertained by the activity.

She traveled to 42 states and 3 Canadian provinces. She was a good traveler. We would never have thought of leaving her home. Take extra old towels or rugs for the muddy places. I used to wipe her feet before she came inside on those nasty days.

She is gone now. We had to put her down in December. With her being with us on those trips we have many wonderful memories of her that will last the rest of our lives. She was a great dog.

Our dog was jail trained when we got him. Worse treatment our dog ever got. Once we threw the jail away, let him have run of the MH all turned out OK. We turn on animal planet on TV. Our dog will lay and watch it. :B I always check with neighbor RVers to find out if our dog was barking. Once we threw the jail away no more barking. I agree with previou post. Long walks before and after leaving your dog.

We take out Chow/Rot mix with us. He loves to travel and have no issues. Our new fiver has a couch just for him and that's where he sleeps and stays while were gone, even has a big window he can look out. Has never chewed anything and stays quiet.

Not a C, but we always take our Golden with us on trips, never stays in a kennel. She is very comfortable riding in the back seat of the truck and would not be happy with us at all if we left her behind.
