Insulated and ventilated (powered exhaust fans) Al dog boxes are available. There are many things to make a dog comfortable in colder weather in these boxes (for example adding straw bedding); that would not be a big concern for me. I would be more worried about keeping them cool in very hot weather. The insulation keeps the sun rays from heating the walls of the box (like the insulation inside the roof of your truck (compare to a cargo van with exposed metal roof). A good exhaust fan and plenty of vent holes will pull in fresh air and exhaust the air heated by your dog's body; one company is using "fantastic fans" to exhaust a 58"(w)x27"(h)x36"(d) box. In hot weather, healthy dogs need shade, water, and ideally a breeze to keep comfortable when not active.
