Dogs left in RVs

I would be very hesitant leaving a B or any other vehicle running unattended in a parking lot, dog or not. Just asking to get it stolen.

When we had our C we frequently left ours in public parking areas with genny and AC, never a problem. With our Southwind, the size precludes those types of side trips (we use the toad) but do stop sometimes for a meal while in transit and always have the genny and AC. Any official SHOULD be able to realize that an RV with a generator and AC isn't a risk to the animals inside.

I have a TH with a built in generator that I leave my 3 Collies in when I go to the store or restaurant. I leave the A/C and fan on and not gone for more then a hour. Never had a issue.

If I go out to eat I bring them a doggy bag.

Fine, no concerns. Maybe buy a club steering wheel lock if you are concerned about theft. Happy trails

The OP said he would leave the "generator and AC" running....not the engine.

We have traveled over 80,000 miles in 48 states in a class A with our two dogs. We have never had an issue. When it is cool, they sleep. When it is hot, we leave the generator and AC on and they sleep.

No one has said anything to us.

It is very common to see MH's with the generator running and pets inside these days. We do this also.

We occasionally leave our dog in the RV while we grab a quick lunch in a restaurant. We've never had an issue. But he's left in a crate and isn't barky, so it's highly unlikely anyone passing by would have any idea there was a dog inside.

There's another aspect to this: the color of the RV. Both our Class C and our 5er were your basic "white boxes" - and they tended to remain cooler than the ambient temp. If it was under 85 or so, we'd simply leave the fantastic fan running; plus a large battery-operated fan pointed at the couch where the dogs slept. I mean, they sleep on our deck in the ambient heat for hours....LOL! But if it was truly hot and humid, we'd fire the genny on the Class C and turn on the A/C - and then would check in frequently. (The 5er only got used during winter)

Nowadays, many RVs are full-body paint, and the tendency is towards dark colors. If I owned one of those beauties - I'd have the genny and A/C running for sure. Because I doubt the relatively thin insulation of an RV can hold off the heatup effect of a dark color for very long....

We just got back from 2 weeks on the coast in 90+ degree heat. Our dog was with us. I was curious, so I kept a thermometer at her crate and checked it every so often. If we woke up to a 70 degree trailer, shut the air off and hit the road, it was 5-6 hours before it hit 80 in the trailer (this is with outside temps around 90 and in the sun on the interstate).

This tells me that in most instances, if the power went out, our dog would still have 5-6 hours (in our trailer) before it got "warm". Like mentioned above, she lays in the driveway in 90-100 degree heat. Therefore, we are comfortable leaving her in the camper with air running and we will leave for as long as 5-6 hours. If conditions are shady and the temps below 90, we would leave for as long as we wanted.

I prefer to leave her at home with friends...
