Dogs that go outide at night, suggestions

We are going to go to Florida for the winter for the first time and would like to know how others do with dogs that need to go out at night, any tips, easy ways of doing it. we have a fenced yard at home so no worries, and I will walk on leash if I have to, just want ideas on how others do it.

  • I see people walking their dogs during all hours of the night. Some will have a flashlight to see the droppings. If the dog has to go, what other alternative do you have. All the CG's that I have ever stayed at requires pets on a leash and to clean up after them.
  • We stayed long term in a couple of parks and you just put the leash on them, take a flashlight/headlamp and a poop bag or two and walk them. If you are careful and time your feedings, you shouldn't really have to go out that much through the night unless the dogs are seniors who sometimes seem to be mixed up with their body clock. I would use one specific area where they normally went during the day so they don't get the idea that it would just be pure fun to wonder around and around in the dark.
  • General rule is: You take the dog out on a leash and stay with it while it does its business. If the business is done within your own space, you might be OK leaving it a couple hours until light and then cleaning it up. However, if the business is done anywhere else, clean it up immediately.

RV Parks are too close of quarters to let your dog outside by itself. All it takes is for the dog to walk onto someone else's space and pee and you could face eviction. Or the dog might see a smaller creature and take off after it, etc.
  • I would just follow the CG rules. that way you can't go wrong. Remembering that you have to be with the dog to clean up after it.
  • Mine let me know and I let them out, when they want back in they either come thru the doggie door on the back porch or bark to let me know.
We live in the country and part of our acreage is fenced..
