One of our minature doxies had this also. He had lived in a small kennel his first 7 years with no excercise, or very little and poor diet and medical care. That may or may not have contributed. He was diagnosed at age 9 and was 12 1/2 when he passed away. Everything was fairly normal until the day before he died. Got tired more easily and panted if he tried walking up a hill and we had to be mindful of the temperature (had a hard time in either heat or cold) but he still enjoyed and had a good life until the very end.
