The only part of getting old I am finding out is I don't feel as safe anymore when camping by myself... I probably look like a real easy target to the thugs out there... Wish I had a big bad boy dog to take with me... Used to I never saw anyone in the woods but its not that way anymore around here...
Guess i could test it out and throw a rock into the woods and if no ones throws one back out at me then I am safe haha... Roy Ken
Guess where we go there are people everywhere so do not feel afraid .. sometimes we keep the outside lights on overnight .. just as a pre-cautionary method to ensure we can see what is outside. But we no longer go 'off road / off the grid' camping like in our younger years .. saw a couple of campgrounds which did not get cell service, and we even installed a cell signal booster, but other than not wanting to go anywhere that cannot at least phone for assistance, have never been truly fearful, cautious perhaps.
As to age ... well, 70+ yr old Hubby just went into bedroom for a "power nap" as I reminded him how before retirement we attended a few night meetings where those 'retirees' were all bubbly with energy because they took power naps ... sometimes we just adjust as we age. Since we no longer have a "stix 'n brick" home, we will probably park our rig in an rv park which is specifically for 'long term rv living' - have a couple of them checked out already, one even has a 10x30 space for lawn, etc. which is entirely fenced and capable of putting gates in for a dog or recliners or ? Better than an apartment for sure.
Sold our small 'weekender' rig a couple of weeks ago and decided we would buy a couple of sleeping bags and rent yurts or cabins or rentals for vacation times from here on out.
We have been volunteering in Fall/Winter for Oregon Parks Dept. for several years and are going to volunteer again this winter, will decide in January/February if it is time to hang up our OPRD hats for good. Not seeing friends from the road will be the only regret.
Sorry for the rambling, but just wanted to share that perhaps it isn't age as it is Health which is more the determining factor and we do go where health facilities are available .. which has been our only concession these past five years. PLUS have our yearly Check-Ups and sort of think of that as relative to taking the vehicles in for their annual checkups, just means more tests, and more money as we age ... fact of Life for us and our vehicles.
PS : may add a senior dog to our Life this year, undecided yet.
