Just breaks my heart

The 19 Firefighters that lost their lives on the wildfire in Arizona.

And to read that so many others have died this year alone...."Before the 19 deaths in Arizona, 43 firefighters had been killed so far in 2013, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. A total of 83 firefighters died last year while on duty."


I have fought forest fires, when much younger, for the BC Forest Service. It almost makes me sick to my stomach to read these stats.

    As a former firefighter, my heart is saddened by this news. I will always appreciate these brave people who work hard to protect us. May God bless them and their families.

    Both Leo and I "work as volunteers" for our Fire Department and Ambulance squad - today is yet another sad day for our fallen brothers. May they rest in peace and may the good Lord protect and comfort the familes of our fallen brothers and entire town of Prescott!

    yes, all my brothers/sisters in the fire service, are deeply shocked.

    this is a worst disaster than the infamous Storm King Fire in Colorado in 1994, which was shocking at that time.

    having fought wildland fires in California, i know how physical and scary a job, these people were faced with.

    have done the shelter drills many times and we all know that you've got a 50/50 chance to survive getting run over by the fire.

    the entire fire fighting community has been shaken to the core, by the shear number of fatalities of this unit.

    please pray for their families, loved ones, friends and co-workers.

    The fire that these brave souls were working on when they lost their lives is the Yarnell Fire, which began Friday afternoon, started by lightning, very close to the town of Yarnell, AZ.

    This is monsoon season in AZ, which means we get plenty of lightning strikes, sometimes without much (if any) rain. That causes lots of fires in these drought-ridden times.

    My wife has a cousin and her son was one of the lucky ones on this fire but he didn't cover up he ran like hell. He was burned because of falling down but he is still a fire fighter.
