But CHF is different than the undetected Cavalier heart defect that sometimes takes apparently healthy young dogs, isn't it? It was reading some of those accounts years ago that scared me. I have to say, Cavs are some of the most adorable, affectionate little dogs I've ever met. Our Poquita (chi/pom) had a murmur for her last 5 or 6 years and it never did progress to CHF when she passed at 15½. Our vet said the murmurs are very common as dogs age.
