Our beloved Havanese, Taz, was diagnosed with a murmur at about 18 months. we took him to a cardiologist who did an extensive exam and echocardiogram. She said that he had a congenital defect that was not operable but we would work to support his heart and he could enjoy a good, though probably not long, life. With careful monitoring and medication he lived a normal life until just after his 10th birthday when his heart had enlarged sufficiently to give him severe problems. We worked with his vet to get it and the CHF under control with medication but finally had to let him go to the bridge at 10 1/2. We like to picture him there playing with our Cody - both strong and healthy and waiting for the rest of the family to join them in our time.
I encourage you to see a cardiologist and have the echo done so you know exactly what you are dealing with. Perhaps there is more/different things they can do. You and your baby will be in our thoughts and prayers.
