I have a very good friend who had a cavalier. She did her homework and got it from a responsible breeder. She lost the dog at a very young age. I think she was 4. She had been diagnosed and was gone within a few months.
Doug, I highly doubt that there are any clear lines around. If there were, my friend would have found them. She is very conscientious and does her homework to the n'th degree.
I think the Cavalier club supports research on the problem.
It's too bad, as they are wonderful little dogs. I had considered getting one, but with the heart issues, I gave up that idea.
Hopefully they find a gene and can work on eliminating it from the breed.
