Fake Svc Dogs a Growing Problem

Clicky

I find it sad that people feel the need to abuse the system. One would think they would be grateful they are physically well enough to perform their own tasks.

Trained service dogs are something else... the intense training they go through and what they can do for their person is amazing.

We have a friend who has a GSD service dog for that very reason. I imagine that the vast majority of the general public would not be able to make that call correctly. The dog can, and alerts his human that you better do something quick.

Of course, I am also scornful of those that truly abuse service dog privleges.
  • And lets not forget the 'companion' dogs that people tend to pass off as service dogs. No or very little training for the dog, owners are usually those who just like to have their dog with them all the time.
  • Just remember that "fake" is a very difficult term to define. What may seem fake to one person represents a significant necessity to another. Consider PTSD, seizure recognition, diabetic recognition, even memory loss. The disability may not seem recognizable to the casual passer by, but the disability may still be significant. Thus the dilemma, not to throw the baby out with the bath water.
But indeed, if there is a way to play the system, any system, you can bet people will take advantage.
