"Rat meat sold as lamb in latest China food scandal"
This is what China sold to their own humans, can we honestly believe they care about what they ship to the USA for dogs?

And herein lies all the problems regarding imports.

I don't have extraordinary faith in the Washington Compost for data, but after glancing at the consumerist, wouldn't waste any more time on them myself.
bumpy - BCSnobExplorerThe FDA can only do what they are authorized to do and funded to do. You want more inspections then give the FDA more funding = pay more taxes.
Proposed 2014 FDA Budget
FDA budget includes increase for food safety, inspections of Chinese imports
Strapped by FSMA, FDA seeks authority for new user fees in budget request
The US Food and Drug Administration has requested a $4.7 million dollar budget for fiscal year 2014, an increase of $821 million, or 21%, over FY 2012. The biggest chunk of that increase is due to the Food Safety Modernization Act and almost all of that would be borne by new user fees.
new user fees = higher retail prices

I read the posted articles about lecithin waste-products linked to rates of heart disease. It appears that there was one study done in the US. I missed where the French were also included in this study. - Pawz4meExplorer

Any facts to support that one?
Crowe may have more, but here are a few articles that discuss the issue:
Cleveland Clinic
Science Daily

bumpy - dturmModerator...and no EPA regulations that leave toxic metal/chemical sites among the worst in the world.

Go to the tech forums and see how many people order LEDs from China. Why? The Chinese know how to do it.
.
well I would say the reason that our LEDs, CFLs, shoes, etc., etc., etc. come from China is that they can make it with reduced labor costs and can undercut the made in the US prices drastically.
