I'm so sorry this happened to your fur kid. There are good and bad people in all professions.
We left a previous vet because a puppy we used to have came home from boarding with what turned out to be a broken leg! The vet denied any wrong doing, even though the puppy couldn't put any weight on the leg whatsoever, but an orthopedic vet we took him to the next day did an x-ray (our previous vet never did this; said he saw no need) and said that the type of break he had was almost surely from being dropped (or him jumping) from a high distance, like a kennel on the second level. We changed vets to the orthopedic vet's practice and got the original vet to pay our bills after reporting him to the state board (only reported b/c he refused to admit wrongdoing/negligence).
In no way does this mean that all vets are suspect. Most vets are WONDERFUL people, and I love my current vet (although I HATE the corporate model recently implemented in the practice...).
If you're not comfortable with your old vet, by all means, change vets to the new one in which you have confidence.
