Had to take Mikko to vet (update 4/9/14) K-State Diagnosis

He would not put any weight on his right front leg. They found a hair line crack and inflammation in the xray of his ankle. They gave me some Deramaxx and started him on Adequan injections for arthritis. Mikko is suppose to get 2 injections every week for a month then 2 injections every month to maintain.

Vet said it would take a while to heel and may never heel or a chance of cancer.

I then need to have it xrayed in 30 days to make sure it's not cancer.

No stairs for Mikko and my bedroom is down stairs. Mikko has always wanted to be by my side when I'm home and sleeps next to my bed.

  • Owie! Poor Mikko. Does he ever jump off the porch after a squirrel or anything that might explain it? Does he have osteoporosis? I sure hope it isn't cancer and I hope the meds help. I can tell you from personal experience that hairline fractures hurt like heck.
  • How old is Mikko? Good luck keeping him from going down the stairs to be with you...
Keeping him in our prayers for easy healing!
  • :( Poor Mikko, sorry "dad"! I hope everything goes well and the regime heals his leg up.

I sure hope it's nothing and rest will cure it. The injections sound like Adequan (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan or PSGAG) which is pretty effective in treating arthritis.
    Thanks I corrected my post.

  • Awh geez, sorry for this situation with his ankle. We'll say our prayers for Mikko that it'll heel, and no cancer to set into (?) this injury.
