How to keep cat from under dash ??

A loose cat in a MH? They can get under your feet and impair your stopping or acceleration . Run up on the dash and impair your vision,jump at your head or shoulders and on and on.

I can't believe anyone would leave a 'cat' loose in a MH while driving a MH down the road.:(

You can't leave a cat in a crate all day.

You sure can if you make it accommodating and honestly I don't know too many RV'ers that drive ALL day.

Sam the Siamese unexpectedly had to go with me when I went full time. He would have NOTHING to do with an airline crate which as you all know for 'me' is the "SAFEST" way for all pets to travel.

Panicking I went out and bought ALL kinds of crates to accommodate this cranky Siamese. All of which he would have no part of. If you have ever heard a Siamese scream you know you will do just about anything to shut them up. :W

THIS is what HE agreed on.
Albiet NOT the 'safest' way for him to travel in case of an accident but it kept him contained to be safe for ME driving the MH.

Extra large soft side crate.
Litter box on one end his bed on the other and food and water on the side.

And BTW, I tried putting it on the bed but he wanted a window seat!
So I bought a piece of plywood 3 legs and made a pedestal along side the bed so he could be by the window while traveling. :R



Sam the Siamese passed away last week at the age of 22 having logged 20,000 miles as a happy RV'ing cat traveling in a crate. God speed my little man. :C

Our cat was kept on a leash in the truck when we traveled. I could always grab it when he decided the best place to travel was under my husband's feet. And yes, I could stop him before he jumped off my lap or from the back seat to the front.
He did have his blanky in the back seat.

It really cut into my nap time.

Our friends cat liked to hide in the dash. They put nylon mesh to block him.

Agree on the crate. Having a TT, our cat rides with us in the truck while underway, and she is in a carrier. We bought a small-dog one, which gives her room to sit up & even stand in it, turn around, and not be cramped up; she can see out of 3 sides through screen mesh. We keep her in it unless she's in the trailer (once it's set up, or when we stop for lunch at rest areas). Safer for her and for us.

We have traveled over 20,000 miles with Pogo,our 14 year old Siamese,"happily" ensconced in the camper. Originally we used a B+ motor home,and now a Northstar truck camper. In the B+,we put his bed in the center aisle where he could see us and dropped a fiberglass screen to keep him out of the cab. Additionally,we put his soft carrier under the table and his litter box in the bath tub. In the Northstar he rides in his bed on our bed where he suffers nary a bump. I receive a serious scolding every evening,but he seems to enjoy looking out the windows as we travel. He is very fond of prairie dogs and bison.

By crating ALL animals while RV is in motion. For their safety and yours.

the only reason he will run under the dash is to hide so he feels safer. Give him another option that will make him feel safe. We used to have a place under the sofa by pulling back the front facade.

If you can't find a spot in the coach, then add a soft sided crate as suggested above. Start with it in your house before the trip by always feeding treats inside the crate for a couple weeks. You probably won't even have to close the door of the crate but you might want to consider putting a towel over the majority of the door so it stays dark inside but he doesn't feel trapped inside it.

I have trapped over a dozen feral cats and every time they quieted right down after we threw a towel over the cage to make it dark. It makes them feel safe.

We have one of these that we set up in a quiet area for the cat.
It is like a den for him. He rides there most of the day. A little pheromone sprayed on it and he is good to go.


The cat now shows no urge to crawl under dash or down near my feet when I am driving
