What do you do to protect your dog and feel confident when you leave them in the rv alone? I am specifically worried about the ac turning off due to some power issue while were gone. We have a French bulldog and she does not tolerate heat very well at all. We are so nervous to leave her and come back to find her cooked in there. We are looking into surge protectors and voltage regulators (but aren't sure if the ac would turn back on once it was safe), temperature monitors (which are useless without WiFi and cell service), or even leaving a key with the park manager in case of an outage. Any tips or ideas would be great!

Our dog is a little 7 pounder and travels with us. When we leave her in the RV, we leave the roof vents open even though the A/C is on. The power would have to be off for quite some time before the inside temp would be an issue. We also leave plenty of water and food. Fortunately, she will only eat if she's hungry and won't eat more than she needs. Lastly, just like when we are out on our boat, we text a flight plan and check in times with our grown kids. They know if we don't check in and they can't reach us they'd call the campground, tell them where our keys are hidden, and offer to pay them a ridiculous amount of money to care for poochie until.... Several years ago, 1200 miles from home, DW and I were in a motorcycle accident while the dog was back in the RV. Though we were both hospitalized with injuries for a couple of days, we were capable of calling the campground, telling them where our keys were, and they took excellent care of our dog. A back up plan, faith, and a trust in the goodness of people works for us.

Mostly we're choosy about where we stay. We avoid campgrounds that don't seem to be well maintained. Saving a few dollars a night just isn't worth it.Also, we avoid hot areas during the heat of the summer. So July and August have us heading for the mountains rather than the beach.We make sure the RV is nice and cool before we leave. With the blinds closed (which they always are when we leave) it takes a long time for it to get dangerously hot.

I have a big sign in the window that says "Save my pet in case of emergency" 1 pug on board. Not sure if some one will think a power loss is an emergency and get my dog out, but better than nothing. I too think it would take a good while for the temp to get in a danger zone. Never gone for more than half a day. After all my dog needs to go potty.

We leave food and plenty of water. Our little girl only eats when she is hungry and only eats what she needs. We leave the A/C on a comfortable setting. Keep all the shades closed except one for her to look at the window to see us coming. We are usually only gone for a few hours. Also we have never been any where that it is extremely hot in the. Summer months. We also leave the ceiling fan on to circulate the air. Like previous poster said. Would take a good while with A/C off to get extremely hot in there.

You can get an addition to your generator that turns the generator on when you lose power. Very popular with RVers that have residential fridge.
