SAFETY WHILE TRAVELLING ALONE

All good advice,Id like to add mine..dress to look tuf if possible..
Make yourself a hard target..
Wearing short skirt and showing lots of skin as most women like to do,looks sexy, however when youre alone it might invite some unwanted attention from unsavory characters..especialy at night
I wear a dark leather jacket,jeans and heavy boots,looking kinda like a biker type,,works almost too well as some people kinda shy away from me,at first sight,even though Im total sweethart and kindest person you could know..lol

I love traveling alone and have read a lot of blogs by ladies who do it and never once have I read that they felt unsafe at any time You will be fine.

Don't discount bear spray even if you have a firearm. While a gun will likely stop a 2-legged animal, it might not stop an actual bear.


Great advice. I would also add "bring enough gun." To clarify this I always carry legaly and if I can't I don't go there and I avoid dangerous neiborhoods if possible. I have several different handguns I carry depending on where I am going and how I am dressed. However if I will be somewhere there are large and dangerous animals those handguns stay in the house. If I will be somewhere like that I would have one of two handguns with me that are of a caliber and power level that are appropiate for conditions. I have shot both these handguns a lot and am familar with each and the recoil associated with each. I would not recommend either of these handguns for anyone who won't spend the time to become proficient with them. A shotgun with slugs or a rifle would also be appropiate for protection from large animals but cannot easily be carried on your person.
To sum it up, a firearm is not some magical device that will protect you just because you have one with you. Also if you do get one it must not only be appropiate to the task at hand you must be able to handle it. Jim.

Here's another angle-make sure your truck is well maintained, and you have basic knowledge of tires, oil level, leaks, overheating, etc. Being stranded due to breakdown is unpleasant and can be dangerous. Busy interstate shoulders are dangerous. Breakdowns can be a time you are most vulnerable.

Every one has their own level of safety / security measures. I suggest you consider the following:
1. Travel with RV clubs/groups
2. boondocks in areas that you are very familiar with
3. Install a security light on your RV to replace your original (amazon). This light will stay off until you or an intruder gets within 10 to 15 feet of your RV, then it will automatically turn on a very bright flood light which will stay on for about 10 min. The light is angeled so you are not disturbing your neighbor.
4. I keep a large bear spray canister in my truck, 5th wheel, house and car.
5. I have Good Sam Emergency Road Side service so I don't get stranded.

The police are only minutes away when seconds count. Awareness of ones surroundings is essential, along with preparedness to act if something should happen. We carry everywhere. Wife and I both LEO so we are kind of required by our departments. I have zero issues with trained civilians carrying. It's a crazy world and getting crazier. Some people don't believe in carrying, that's fine. I'll protect you when the time comes, if I can.

But by no means is anyone or anyplace immune to sudden violence. It happens. We see it every day in the news. Vigilance and awareness are very important.

My wife and I fight to see who gets to face the doors in a restaurant. We're not paranoid, we're realistic.

Neither of us have ever fired our weapons in the line of duty. Thank goodness.

I've traveled solo tent camping on the Appalachian Trail and throughout various parts of the world staying in different classes of hotels and pensions/bed and breakfasts.
My scariest moment was walking to a business hotel( sofitel?) on the outskirts of Paris;survived with a renewed sense of the basics.
No firearms or repellant spray needed since like others I generally paid attention to my surroundings.
IMO confidence takes you far.

I haven't needed it either.. And hopefully never will. But, if I do, I have it.

If folks don't want to carry, or have a gun, that's their prerogative. As having one is mine.
