Rescue dogs can make good pets. My son has adopted 4 and they lived long lives on an acreage and had a run of the house with them. These were German shorthairs. Great dogs. My sister took in a Sheltie that lived with a bachelor that beat that beat him daily. He was finally had the dog taken from him and my nephew fostered it. Tucker is very wary of men and sticks close to my sister. Poor little guy would see a man and run or try to get in my sisters lap. He is better now, but it took nearly ten years and he still shys from men. He loves kids and women and will warm up to guys over time but stays apprehensive. That little poodle might come around and be the best traveling companion of all.
