Congrats! You should be excited!
When we got our bloodhound (from a breeder), there was a telephone interview, 5 page application, a trip down to Maryland for a live interview, reference check and THEN the OK to buy the pup. In my not-so-informed days I would have told the breeder to take a hike, but knowing what I know now about bloodhounds it's the right thing to do. I've never gotten a shelter dog but Jake is a quasi-rescue (went to one family, returned to breeder, then came to us). It's unfair to both the new owner and animal if the match isn't correct. Kudos to all the shelters and breeders who take the time to make a good match.
