Its a sad day

We have put the " B " up for sale...we are going to take an early retirement and move to Ecuador ...so we are selling everything except basically the clothes on our backs and heading south of zero ! Imagine that at our age LOL . I have been getting the wees ready for long periods of time in a sherpa travel bag ....I will miss our " B "..lots of good memories of holidays at the beach, walking for miles with my angel Bella...but life goes on and changes take place !
One thing I will not miss is another winter...this one has really helped me make up my mind to go south....Kathleen

  • Well congratulations! If anyone has ever watch House Hunters on HGTV then you have seen many people settling in Ecuador, it's a beautiful place that I hope you truly enjoy!
I understand how you feel about the loss of Bella, anytime we play the caregiver for any length of time there is a huge void when it's over so I truly hope this new adventure helps to fill that void, if that's possible.
Best of luck! Please be sure to stay with us!

  • we still have to sell the house etc but have started the process of listing everything....we hope things sell before next fall as we really want to be gone before the first snow flake flutters down from the sky !
  • I hope you will keep us updated. Retiring to somewhere outside of the U.S. is something DH and I have considered. So it would be nice to hear the experiences of someone who's actually doing it.
  • Congratulations on fulfilling your dreams and on your retirement!

I hope you find everything you dream of in Ecuador. Please keep us updated on your new lifestyle and the wees.

    Best wishes from Oklahoma!
  • Kathleen, I'm glad to hear that you are able to retire. Nursing is very hard work. Enjoy the beach! Please stay on the forum here. We are still family!

Wow! That is quite a major change in your life and lifestyle! I am sure I am not the only one who would be curious as to how you picked Ecuador to retire to. Yes, I know it's warm, but there's gotta be more to it . . . :@

In any case, good luck in your new adventure!!!

Well...we owned our own business and after 9/11 our business income was drastically reduced..and our pension income went down the drain..we were lucky to sell the business but our RRSP's are minimal as we had to start all over again..I am not complaining as the economy has hurt others much worse than us..we were able to become employed and have had a comfortable existence for the last few years . Bellas death really threw me for a loop...after looking after her for all those years with a chronic illness, I found my life to be a bit empty..yes, I do have 2 other wees but life has just lost some of its spark... we had always planned on retiring to Chelem Mx...even had a new DVM there LOL..you can see what my priorities are LOL..but the Mx government changed the immigration requirements last Nov and its a bit too pricey for us now..so I started researching for another warm climate and EC seems to meet all that we want out of life...good weather..large expanses of beach to walk on...and we will be financially very comfortable there... and if it doesn't suit us, we can always come back home...just a matter of buying a few pieces of furniture and renting a place LOL As a nurse I see people all the time that wish they had followed their dreams and didn't..so I am determined to follow mine...just wish I had my little beachbum Bella with me !

  • I wish you the best in Ecuador. Sometimes life hands us a new chapter.
Go and enjoy. I would like to be moving somewhere with milder winters.
Pennsylvania winters are bad enough. I can't imagine living farther north.
I'm sure you will like it south of Zero. Let us know when you get situated, hopefully you can share your prior RV experience on the forum.
