It's all the glowing reports in past posts that made me decide to try this. Plus, I'm watching what he does when Ben's frightened - just now, there was a clap of thunder, and I found him sitting by the back door (the farthest point from our mostly-glass lake front) and he was quietly shaking. I have a "pup tent", so I made it comfy with a bed; and put it back there so he has a nice place to hide. Just doing that distracted him enough to stop the shaking - my hope is that if I can make this holiday feel safe enough for him, he might still get over it.
Ike my Aussie was terrified by air compressors and all accessories that used compressed air. I'm talking bugged eyes, heavy panting, shaking...the whole "freaked-out dog" thing. Ike also LOVED to camp - and one of the places we camped, when Ed started drag racing, was the race track. The dogs LOVED going to the track (?) - but of course, people were constantly adjusting the air pressure in their tires. Over the course of a year, Ike realized that to do this thing he loved meant being around air compressors - and he settled down to the point that we'd be walking down pit road and if he'd hear air hissing, he'd look at me as if to say "GEEZ I HATE that, let's walk on" and he was fine.
So we'll see how it goes this year.
