Can't really help much, as ours have been traveling since they were Kittens.
Have a large cage on the back seat of the Truck and they generally sleep for most of the trips. Have the cage in two levels, sleeping area on top with water, food, and litter box on the lower level. We've traveled from Florida to Alaska and Florida to Newfoundland and never a problem.
