I'm another one who's a firm believer in the "go on demand" while leashed training - my guys understand that difference between pee and poop - and even answer questions like "do you have to poop?" - if the answer is no, they just come sit next to me. This is invaluable when on the road for a long day; or, at home and we expect to be gone for a while. I tell my dogs "Dogs have to stay home, so go poop" and they generally do.
I'm hoping Jimmy will "channel" Ike when this new puppy arrives: I could tell Ike (when Jim was a pup) "Tell Jimmy to go potty" and he'd pass the message along...LOL!! Not sure if I'll have a translator for the new kid ;-)
