Another thing to remember is that most people will only have 1 or 2 large dogs in the family. With small dogs (as it is with cats), there are more 3+ in a single home. Controlling one dog is pretty simple business; controlling two takes a bit more effort; when you've got more dogs than you have people, then it becomes very difficult.
