Valley of Fire is quite lovely and nice this time of year. Lots of good places to walk your furry friends. It's north of Vegas and the campground with hookups is great for RVs. I don't recommend trying to take them into the other campgrounds there, you might get stuck. Drop me a note if you have specific questions about Valley of Fire.
Red Rock is also lovely. There's a nearby "campground" with no hookups, but it's not very "improved." Red Rock is close to Vegas so I recommend one of the Casino campgrounds instead.
Casino camping on the Strip can be pricey but there are more affordable ones east of the strip along Boulder HIghway.
Mt. Charleston has some nice campgrounds if you have chains and like snow.
The Casinos are pretty this time of year, with lots of decorations and free live entertainment wandering the halls. Stay off the gaming floors and out of the stores to have a cheap time! Lots of Sun-Thurs food specials available.
North of Vegas the area around Pahranaghat (is that how you spell it?) is beautiful. I like the campground, don't think there are hookups. Can't remember. Makes a nice base for exploring the nature preserves and Area 51.
South of Vegas the whole Mojave Preserve is lovely this time of year. I like to use the area around Kelso Depot as my home base.
Hope this helps?
Yes lots of good tips, thanks!
Casino camping sounds awesome, but for this trip with the dog I don't plan to go to Vegas, yet would love to find some campgrounds outside the city's to enjoy both gambling & nature & that is Dog friendly.
I do not require hookups but do like them. Especially the WiFi being able to have power without the Geni.
I would like to see some snow being my dog loves it & it adds something special this time of year. :)
I would like to see some cool alien stuff around Area 51, even if it's just for silly fun?
As far as needing chains?
I don't have any, but do have All Terrain tires on my 4x4 truck camper.
Don't have much desire or experience in driving in the snow if I would need more than this.
Currently have no dinghy set up & so everywhere we go with have to be in our truck camper.
& any casino fun will have to be for sort time frames due to leaving our dog in the camper alone. ( assuming the weather is cool enough to do so? )
How big is the valley of fire?
Should I visit one part over another?
