Lost my co-pilot today

With heavy heart, we had to make the big decision today. Bailey, our black & white parti cocker spaniel was diagnosed with CHF and had an enlarged heart back in March. Most of the summer he did very good until Thanksgiving. He had a major setback while we were on a short trip to Port Charlotte, FL. Bailey never really recuperated from that setback. He declined very rapidly in the past week and could not let him go on any longer. I stayed with him to the very end... he has been there for me since he was 11 weeks old and would have been 14 years old on May 6.

Has traveled about 50,000 miles with us, from FL to Maine, out to Texas twice, even dined at the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Back up to PA to the Amish Country and all points in between. Even enjoyed Branson. He was a gypsy like his mama.

He has joined his two brothers, Sonny and Chadwick, at the Rainbow Bridge.

We have a big hole in our hearts tonight and will for a long time to come.

Love you, Bailey Boy.
  • Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and kind words.

Eyes are full of tears as I type this.... caring, sharing and support are a great help...

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. They get to be just one of the family, and letting them go when their time has come is hard. Bless you for taking care of him and allowing him to take care of you. I know you are going to miss Bailey.
  • I am so sorry for your loss. We had to make that decision 2 months ago.
Doing the right thing, and not being selfish is very, very hard, but Bailey is at peace now.
May your hearts heal quickly and leave you only great memories. Bailey was a lucky pup to have such great parents.
    Rest in Peace Bailey.

Some dogs were just born to be campers! So sorry for the loss of your camping pal - but glad you had many wonderful years together (((HUG!)))
  • Thank you. We had a great life together with great times. He loved to travel, walk the rv parks looking for friends. He never met a stranger, furry or human. Full-timed for the last 10 years and adapted to every situation.

Sorry for your loss, to. This was our 3rd cocker and the decision doesn't get any easier or the heartbreak.
  • Sorry for your loss. It sounds like you had a lot of good times with Bailey. We had to put down our Charlie Chesapeake 4 years ago after 14 wonderful years of camping and fishing. It's the hardest part of being a pet owner. Godspeed.
