I am new at this and I apologize if this is already posted somewhere (if it is, I could not find it). We currently own two dogs and five (yes, five) cats. (We live in the country and all were abandoned near our home.) One of the dogs is a very old senior and there is a good chance we might be down to one dog and 5 cats soon enough.My question: We are interested in going somewhere warm for the winter. Are there any RV parks that allow multiple pets like our situation? Any that allow you to let the cats out? We are responsible pet owners. Everyone is neutered, up to date on shots and we pick up after our dogs. We went cross country a few years back (3 cats then) and I just felt so bad for the cats being cooped up all those months while we traveled.Ultimately, we want to find a second home in a warmer part of the country. Christine - Do you mean let the cats "out" on a leash, or loose? Here in Arizona, a loose cat will not live very long. Predators such as bobcats and coyotes love to catch and eat kittys.

Christine, I highly doubt any campground is going to allow you in with two dogs and five cats. There's usually a limit to the number of pets allowed on site and with good reason. You may love your pets and feel they're entitled to go anywhere you do, but not everyone shares those beliefs. In a campground, you have to share small real estate with a lot of people, some of whom may not be dog/cat lovers who have the same rights to enjoy themselves as you do. Please don't tske offense, but allowing five cats to roam free is NOT responsible pet ownership. I love pets, our dog recently passed and out cat is presently sitting on my lap, but there is no way I'd want to camp near an rv with a zoo inside and cats roaming free.

Rattlesnakes and fire ants aren't too good for their health either. Alligators. Depends on where you are, but there is usually something that will speed their demise. I always thought kitties belonged inside anyways. Reduces their chances of feline leukemia (airborne transmission) parasites and fleas.

This is the number one complaint in RV parks. People bringing all these pets are ruining it for others. I hope they start limiting to 1 pet or start charging daily fees. Maybe find the cats good homes or boondock.

Having pets means accepting responsibility. Kids, pets, elderly parents, etc. can cramp your 'style'. You have to realize that you have acquired multiple pets-if that means an RV vacation is not practical-a true 'pet lover' does not go on such a vacation.

Thanks to all who replied. I went through the Forum before I posted and I had an idea where this was headed. But I put it out there anyways JUST IN CASE :D there was a possibility. And yes, the cats would be on a leash. I completely understand the complaint of people not picking up after their pets, etc. It's disgusting enough in rest stops. It's too bad they ruin it for the rest of us. I could not part with them though. Thank you again.

We camp with 2 dogs and 3 cats all the time. Currently at a cg for 5 weeks now. When they ask about pets, I just mention tbe 2 dogs. I just don't tell about the cats. Never had a problem. My cats are strictly indoor cats so what difference does it make? Like the military, don't ask, don't tell. No one around us minds our well behaved "zoo".

Devil's advocate here.

We have 2 cats, never on leashes, and we've been in a few RV parks where it's pretty easy to get away with letting them out. No, we don't let them out alone, not around dogs, and we watch them closely.

Much to our surprise they do not wander off too far. If they try we call them or go get them. They seem to mind just fine. They hate leashes. Oh, and they're never out after dark. As said, they make a good snack for all kinds of predators.

I'm only talking about 2. 5? Don't know, that might be a lot to handle.
