My dog bit me.

IMHO-For whatever that's worth.
How many times did you want to punch your boss, ex, or some other jerk?
How many times did you want to respond in anger and/or violence when you felt wronged?
What would have,(or did) happen if you physically assaulted someone?
IOW: Dogs should not be permitted to react to an unpleasant situation by biting. If you're going to keep a dog in society, the dog should know that it cannot use it's teeth, as a solution to an unpleasant situation. IMHO.

Then bite him back :B

No he is not the ALPHA! I hate this Alpha nonsense that was based on faulty studies of wolves in captivity.

He is a dog who was being tormented by a human. Apparently, the dog spoke in dog language to the human, "Leave me alone, I don't like that." The human continued, and the dog raised his level of communication.

The overwhelming majority of the time it has zero to do with "alpha" nonsense (at least on the dog's part).

Was pain involved (for the dog)? Arthritis or something like that? Or does he have some sort of fear/anxiety related to having his paws touched?

Good for you for realizing that he was telling you loud and clear "this is making me extremely uncomfortable" in one of the very few ways of communicating he has available. You get what many people never will.

My DW has MS and I was helping her into bed and I needed her to slide a little to the head of the bed and I was telling her in a firm voice and after I got her covered I reached over to pet the dog and the dog bit me. I guess she thought I was being cross with her, that is the only thing I could figure out. that was the only time I have seen the dog do any thing like that. .
