Someone reported me and my dog

I always keep my dog (55 lb mutt of muscle) on a choker collar and she is supervised 99% of the time when camping.

Anyone with a dog that goes camping knows that you can have the best, well behaved dog ever, but one funny look at the campground can set any dog off.

Well, I had my dog tied up outside and started talking to the neighbors next to us.

Next thing I know, there's screaming and I look over and my dog and another dog are fighting. My dog has no leash attached to her. The dog she was fighting with was slightly larger, maybe 65-70 lbs. The girl walking it was about 8 years old. She got tripped up in the leash and fell down. She didn't let go of leash and got a little road rash on her ankle.

Her mom came running over and I am freaking out. I got my dog under control, her dog was under control and girl was screaming. Mom looked her over and there was no bit marks, just scuffs from the ground. Mom confirmed no bite marks and she ran off.

Walking back to the camper I see her choker laying on the ground broken. She broke a link on it which is why she got away.

less than 2 minutes later security shows up, walks right up to me and tells me they got a report of a dog problem. I told them what happened and show them the broken chain. They asked me 2 more questions. 1) is she a pit bull, 2) did anyone get bit.

I was a little pissed about the pitbull comment, even though shes not purebred, she does have some in her, along with a few other types (guessing). Second, asking if anyone was bit tells me it probably wasn't the mom that called it in, but one of the other residents, which pissed me off too. If anyone should report me, it should be the person involved, not some nosey neighbor.

I never let my GFs 12yo daughter walk my dog around crowds/cg for this very reason. A girl that age had no business walking that dog. Granted my dog was the instigator in this situation, there was no harm/no foul imo. Just irritated at the whole situation.

    This is exactly one of my points to this whole post. Blaming a breed as a whole. It's the little yapper dogs that try to attack my dog ALL THE TIME. Yorkies and Chihuahuas are the worst. I know some KOAs specifically ban Pitbulls. My sister has 4, raised from puppies. They are the most loving breed I have seen.

    Be happy that it ended the way it did and not with huge hospital bills and a lawsuit. Buy the proper collar for the dog as it was obviously undersize. I do understand what you explained but it's all on you. Yes, too many people do suck!

    Wow. I can't believe the ignorance from all you posters. When did I ever BLAME the girl for walking the dog and causing this? I said she was too young to be walking a dog that weighed twice her weight (and not knowing to let go if dogs fight). I did say it was MY fault because my dog started it. A big eye roll here. The lack of reading comprehension on this forum truely amazes me every time I post.


    I never leave her tied up unattended. Ever. I literally walked away for 30 seconds to the neighbor next to me (30') to see what they had wrapped up in tinfoil. My GF was out there too and she walked in the camper to get something. It was like the perfect storm.

    I won't even leave her in the camper unattended unless I am directly outside the camper. She comes everywhere with us when camping, even in the canoe

    I have dogs bum rush me when walking my dog, just like my dog does to other dogs sometimes. I don't think anything of it.

    Guess what, dogs get off leashes sometimes, I've seen it. If I was holding the leash the same thing would had happened (chain breaking). Sorry, I am not one of those people that leaves a dog tied up and walk away with the dog out of eye sight, or go in the camper (like I see many many owners do).

    Point of this post was a) nosey neighbors not minding their own business, b) security calling out pitbulls. I didn't come here looking for sympathy or blaming anyone. Get the story straight.

    My Chihuahua is much more aggressive than my Staffy/Whippet (which most would see a Pit). Which is why the chihuahua stays inside the TH unless out for a walk. I work with a dog rescue and have had many different breeds of foster dogs. Every singe dog that has come through with aggressive tendencies have been because of the piss poor humans that owned them prior to dumping them at the pound or on the street.

    As for temperament test.

    Breed Temperaments

    Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a 90.7% pass rating, while the Whippet has an 86% pass rating.

    The Chihuahua has a pass rating of 69.8%.

    I feel safer with my children around my big bad Staffy than I do with my Chihuahua any day, and that's a well behaved Chihuahua at that. As with any breed, the owner should be mindful and always in control of their dog. This is especial true of pitbull owners, since they seem to get the baddest rap.

    How about instead of demonizing this mans dog. We look at the real issue. Which was his lapse in judgment and how he was controlling or lack there of, of his dog.

    We just happened to be staying in an RV resort where there were hundreds of Show Dogs. The park was near an arena where a national dog show was being held.

    I was walking my medium sized dog (not pit bull) with a leash around the park. Normally she is good around other dogs but once in awhile a dog will set her off. We were approaching a beautiful champion Akita. My dog lunged and the leash broke (the connection at the collar broke). Luckily the owner of the Akita was quick and was able to stop my dog. The Akita probably would have won the battle. I apologized and explained what happened. He said he had just finished grooming the dog and took it for a walk before heading over to show it.

    Check those leash connections...replace the leash if it looks worn.

    Don't listen to everyone else. It is obviously the fault of everyone but you. That choker collar manufacturer is obviously at fault for not warning you that a strong dog could break the collar. Everyone in that park should have been warned by the park management they shouldn't walk their pets anywhere near your dog that looks like a pitbull, but isn't, therefore it is on them. How dare someone bring an 8 year old and their dog into a park where you and your dog are clearly the top dogs, that is totally on them. And isn't there anyone in that park that can stand up and talk to you, man to man? Why should anyone want the park authorities to handle a situation? Someone has a problem with you and your dog they should have come over, stood face to face and told you what they thought. If that escalated and something untold happened, hey it would be their fault for bringing a knife to a gunfight.
    I would have had the police come and take statements because it is quite clear this isn't over. Any dog attack in my parks is not going to be ignored. Such an incident would put any dog owner on very thin ice and your attitude clearly would have broken that ice, so you and your not quite a pitbull would be out.
