Mystery solved
I would have to change the Collies water two to three times a day because of dirt and grass. My new Collie Cooper was taking his paw and raking the top of the water before he took a drink.

- Our lab says water has no flavor unless you are standing in it.
- My 2 Shitzus do not dip their paws, balls (the toy ones) or their legs.

Cooper loves to play fetch with his Nerf dog football. After a while it gets so slobbery it's hard to hold on to throw. Another favorite is tug of war with his rope. He's relentless trying to get Mikko to play with him. Mikko is 12 and just doesn't play much.
Our Kaiya likes to dunk her tennis ball in her water. It's not slobbery enough after chasing it for hours :B.Oasisbob wrote:
No paw problem. Just a natural instinct to clear the top of the water to drink. I just never had another dog that did that. Another instinct is to try to make a bed by raking leaves in a pile to lay on. They do the same thing with the carpet.
I suggest checking the paw for a problem .- Had a German Shepherd that had to have a leg in his water bucket when drinking. No paw problem; he would change legs while drinking. We had to use a galvanized small wash tub because he would tip over anything smaller. He would also drop his chew toy in the bucket to hide it from the other dog. It was fun watching him get it back out. He would lay his ears back and squint his eyes, then plunge his head in the bucket and come up with the toy. Needles to say his water bucket was on one end the concrete patio, and the dog door into the family room was 30 feet away on the other end of the patio.
