Nash - New Rescue!

No one can replace our beloved Potsie, the minipoo we lost not too long ago, but the house was too quiet, and Maddie was lonely, sooooo...Joe and I went and took a looksee at Atlanta Pet Rescue, and found this adorable little guy. He's a terrier cross of some sort (yorkie mixed with something bigger). He and Maddie are a great pair, and his assimilation into our household has been really good. He was not at the rescue very long - 4 days, so all he'd had done were his shots and a neuter. He hadn't been there long enough to be bathed/groomed, and he was STINKY and hairy. Unfortunately, we couldn't bathe him, because his sutures had to heal. The day after we brought him home, we realized that he also had a mild case of kennel cough, even though he'd just been vaccinated for it (must have been percolating before the vaccination). His sutures didn't look so great either, so we took him to our vet. He was put on an antibiotic and had to wear a soft cone for a week. We covered our couch with beach towels so he wouldn't stink it up - lol!

He's now good as new, so he went off to the groomer this morning for a much needed spa treatment (and his bedding and towels went into the washer)! Here are some photos of before and after his grooming. We think he's going to be a very special boy! The vet estimates him to be between 18 months to 2 years old.

  • Not that it matters what he is, but he looks a lot like a Silky Terrier to me - other than the ears not being up and the tail not docked.

  • he is adorable...he will love you like no other..
  • He's another very lucky dog! BUT I's thinks he looks happier in his "grunge" look!

Should'ah gave him a Mohawk! Bet he would'ah liked that!

  • What a beautiful boy! What a wonderful thing for you to adopt a rescue!
  • It's Benji!!!

What a cutie. So glad that you chose to adopt.

Surgery has been shown in human studies to lower immunity. Often dogs are stressed when they come into a shelter, of course, which further hammers the immune system. So the combo produces a pretty good opportunity for KC to develop, and from what we see in our local shelters, the vaccine doesn't do much. Fortunately it is usually not a big issue.
  • What a handsome guy! Congratulations and thank you for going through rescue. Wishing you many long and happy years together.

  • Cute, cute, cute! We never "replace" dogs-we fill the empty spots and create new memories with our special friends. Like most vaccines, the kennel cough vaccine isn't 100% effective. We've had dogs catch it even after they've gotten the shots.
