National Sheepdog Finals this week (added photos)

Due to all the work we've been trying to do on our farm we have not comepeted enough this year to qualify for our national finals which is only 1hr away from our farm (in Middletown, VA). We were not going to go watch; we're not much on spectating at an event where we're not competing.

However, two of our friends are highly likely to qualify for the semi final round of 40 dogs (out of the initial 150). So we will be going to watch. Our two friends are currently sitting 2nd and 3rd. We bred the dog that is currently sitting 2nd; Liz is out of my Peg (littermate to our Nell and B.J.).

  • Here are a few photos of our friend Peggy and her dog Liz running in the double lift international shed finals. It was raining hard for parts of their run; the teams were given 30min for their runs.

Here they are turning the post with the 20 sheep

working on the international shed (get rid of the 15 sheep without collars keep the 5 with collars)

then pen the 5 sheep with collars
  • Hurray!!!!!

Our friend and her dog (Liz) finished 15th out of 40 in the semi-finals making the cut for the finals. They then went on to complete the entire double-lift international shed course placing 5th in their first National Finals.

Liz loves me (I must have imprinted on her as a pup); whenever she hears my voice she comes running to me and throws herself on her back at my feet. She even left her owner and sheep at a fun trial, ran down the field to see me. I did not go see Liz before she ran at the Finals.

As an aside, location this years finals was a mud pit after getting 7 inches of rain over most of the week. RVs of all sizes are being pulled across the camping field to the road by a large tractor.
  • Wishing them luck. We enjoy watching those kinds of events. Hmmm, perhaps we should do themed trips based on attending sheepdog demos and trials and Scottish Games. I'm always ready to hit the road.
